How to Remove Your Press-On Nails (Without Wrecking Your Natural Ones)

Whether you're switching up styles or giving your nails a breather, removing your press-ons the right way is key to keeping your natural nails happy and healthy.

Here are two easy, nail-safe ways to take off your press-ons at home:

1. The Soak-Off Method

What you’ll need:

  • Warm water

  • A little dish soap

  • A bit of cuticle oil (or olive oil)

  • A bowl

  • Patience and a podcast

How to do it:

  1. Fill a bowl with warm water, a squirt of dish soap, and a few drops of cuticle oil.

  2. Soak your nails for 10–15 minutes. Wiggle them gently to see if they’re loosening.

  3. If they need more time, keep soaking! Don’t force it—slow and gentle is the move.

  4. Once loosened, gently lift from the sides. You can use the provided stick, but be extra careful.

  5. After removal, buff off any leftover glue and apply cuticle oil to nourish your nails.

Pro tip: Never rip off a press-on—it’s not worth the damage (or the regret).

 

2. Press-On Remover (Quick & Easy)

What you’ll need:

  • A press-on remover solution (we like Dashing divas : Magic Off)

  • A removal stick

  • A soft file or buffer

  • Optional: cotton pads to help the remover soak

How to do it:

  1. Push the edges of the nails slightly to break the seal and help the remover do its thing.

  2. Apply the remover directly to the nail and let it sit for a few minutes (follow product directions).

  3. Gently push or lift the nail from the sides using your stick once it starts to lift.

  4. Repeat as needed until the nail comes off easily.

  5. Wipe off any residue and finish with cuticle oil.
